Schools and Education in Uganda

E-mail Print PDF

The foundation of schools and education in Uganda is basically on the arrival of missionaries in Uganda wayback in the 1870s.

The basic purpose of giving education was to the converts in the first Christian sects – Anglican and Roman Catholics.

The converts were to attend catechism classes and as a necessity ,they had to learn reading and writing.

The converts also had to be equipped with basic livelihood skills – carpentry, tailoring and the likewise, the converts also had to be looked after socially- health care and health education, adult literacy .

Now due to developments, education has developed so fast that there are levels-nursery,primary,secondary,tertiary and university.

Within all the systems above the duration differs-nursery..3 years,primary..7 years,secondary...6 years(4 years and 2 years-4 years senior one to senior four,2 years for high school-senior 5 and six)

There is a new trend now in the use of computers -IT. This has made the teaching/learning situations to be global.

Though there are basic values for school education in Uganda, the end result is to combat poverty, poor health care, and lack of adequate food among all Ugandans.

The citizens are developed towards increased literacy, greater awareness of social and health issues, improved nutrition, and greater living standards over all.

E-mail Print PDF

SIMPLY  AMAZING

FOR ALL MY ADULT LIFE I CONSIDERED THE COMPUTER A PRESERVE OF THE  OTHER

PROFESSIONS,SINCE I WAS USED TO CHALK AND TALK, COMPUTER SKILLS AND APPLICATIONS

WERE NEVER MY DREAM IN MY DAY TO DAY TEACHING EXPERIENCE IN THE CLASSROOM,CONSIDERING

THE RESOURCES AT MY DISPOSAL.

AFTER TWO WORKSHOPS,THE SKILLS ACQUIRED HAVE ENABLED ME TO GET THIS FAR! I CAN NOW

PROUDLY GUIDE MY FELLOW TEACHERS AT SCHOOL, IN AREAS THAT I HAVE COVERED WITH EASE.

BELIEVE ME, MY LIFE IN IT WILL NEVER BE THE SAME. I ENCOURAGE FELLOW TEACHERS TO OVERCOME

THAT FEAR AND PERCEPTION.

UGANDAN TEACHERS AND ITCT

E-mail Print PDF

It is early time teachers in Uganda to join the technology and shift from chalk board work,

machines like computers, projectors can do the work chalk board does better and very effective

provided the teacher using them is well equipped with all the skills necessary so allow me to join hands

and thank the ITCT Africa for all the effort ,time, money and all the materials they have put in so far to lift a Ugandan

teacher to a level of a teacher in well developed countries.when technology is invested in a teacher am sure

by the end of the day we are going to see that farmers, traders, doctors, cleaners, drivers and all other people in the whole

Uganda find using technology as the best and effective mean of doing things

TIMELY TRAINING !

E-mail Print PDF

Am privileged being in training in IT with ITCT http://www.itct-africa.org  here in Kampala.

The training is timely !

The training is tailor-made as IT is in real life situations and here to stay !

The training has gone far to  empowering us(TEACHERS)in using IT not only as a personal requisite but even as a teaching learning tool.

The coverage has also helped me in managing my personal documents through the packages of database and excel.

I have also managed to make a PowerPoint (impress)presentation on the topic''Uganda@50'.I can share it with you on a request note at my email ID

Am in plan to put to use the computer lab at my school by designing a timetable fitting my school setting.

Additionally,am contacting a secondary school near my home place to allow me offer lessons in IT not only only in the school system but even to the teachers.

An outreach to the community through different public organizations and government personnel/workers,offering them the knowledge I have so far attained is also in plan.

Am looking forward to other colleagues with interest in IT to link up with me so that I have the programs above realised.
